What is the Joule Thief?
The joule thief is an electronic circuit that lights up a Light Emitting Diode (LED) using
just a single AA battery. What is so special about this? LEDs typically require a minimum of
3 volts to light, however the joule thief boosts the voltage from the AA battery to 3 volts,
and the LED lights!
Recycle your dead AA batteries!
One great feature about the joule thief is that it can operate on dead AA batteries with voltages lower than 1.3 volts. After you use up your new AA batteries in your various electronic devices, move them over to the joule thief to get the most electricity out of your batteries!
